Pulling Brake Drums

A basic question here. Can a drum puller be used on KB1 brake drums or is a hub puller needed? I ask because I have an old Volvo that has tapered axles and requires a special hub puller. Found out the hard way when I tried pulling with a regular drum puller and cracked the drum. Don't want to make the same mistake twice. The manual doesn't mention removing the drums. They just start from them already off.
Expect more basic questions from me. Thanks again.

Re: Pulling Brake Drums

someone with better knowledge will speak up. I think it is the rear drums that need the puller, and if you have access to something that will pull the hub, that would be best. Just make sure that your brake shoes are backed off so you do not have an issue with trying to pull past a possible "wear" edge. The fronts should just, once you take the center nut off, pull out. The drums are hard to come by. Please wait to see if someone has better insight.

Hub puller on the rears after you remove the axle nut, the fronts are like a rear wheel drive car, remove the dust cap then the bearing retainer nut and they pull off.

Re: Pulling Brake Drums

you might want to leave the axle nut on by a couple threads, that way when the hub pops off it won't fly off and hit you shin or chin, or some other place that might leave a mark.
