Rear fender gravel guards

OK here we go again; rear fender gravel guards for a KB1. Haven’t found any , doubt there is any factory guards left around. I like the idea of a guard at the bottom of the front fenders which I may revert to BUT I may give it shot at molding some fiberglass guards. They may look ok when done but I doubt if there is any finish I can put on them that would not chip. ANY ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Rear fender gravel guards

I have ABC plastic 1/8" sheet in storage. I have used it to form a few things and make door-cards. ABS is an easy product to work. There are many plastic specialty stores and you might find some ABS at HD.
You should make a pattern for the gravel-guards you want then trace around the pattern onto the ABS. You do not have to cut the ABS, a simple score from a\n OLFA knife will allow the ABS to break along the score-line. The ABS is easy to work with. A simple sanding will smooth the edges. A very smooth finish can be had if you lightly flame the edges with a propane torch.
This ABS product is inexpensive and easy to work with. I like to use ABS for door-cards. One side is smooth and the other side is textured, very much like the OEM pressed cardboard crap.
The two pictures show the ABS door cards covered in leather.

Re: Rear fender gravel guards

I do not think it unreasonable to assume the gravel guards for sale in the IH Store may have bee n made in the way I described.
$176 will but enough ABS to do all of the door cards, ceiling and the gravel guards and have lots left over.

Re: Rear fender gravel guards

Thanks Nick. Can I clamp the abs to the fender and heat it to get the right contour? Should I make a fiberglass template on Saran Wrap ? I’m not familiar how this stuff works but it sounds like it may be a good solution.

An inexpensive option: spray truck bed liner on the fender itself after taping off the correct shape.

I think this is a good idea. Maybe the best idea.

Bed liner sounds like a great option. Can be renewed easily as well.
