rear leaf spring orientation

So I removed the rear leaf springs to install new bushings. At the time I thought they were symetrical. Turns out, the locating pin is about 2" closer to one spring bolt than the other. Its not centered front to back. I'm thinking the pin sits closer to the front to keep the axle directly under the bump stops while compensating for the rear shackles. is that correct? Short side to the front? The manual doesn't address it.
