Positive/ Ground cable

I am wondering what was factory for the 1949 KB-3. I think this would have had a woven copper positive ground wire. How long would it have been?

I think Brillman sells one. Not sure the length. Also many recommend running the ground to the starter mounting bolt instead with a larger wire.

Re: Positive/ Ground cable

I replaced the original ground with a 0 gage inverter(generator) cable and it was just the right length and the factory applied ends fit perfectly from battery to one of the starter mounting bolts. It significantly increased the cranking power, highly recommend doing this.

36" for the red going to the starter bolt
30" for the black going to the starter

Get the biggest battery cable, use 3/8" ring connectors on the ends

Re: Positive/ Ground cable

Ran very heavy cable from battery negative to starter ( 4-0 if that makes sense or maybe 0-4 ). I used a braided ground cable in like new condition , sanded the frame mounting area to bare metal and used electric contact gel where I mounted it. I also added an insulated cable from the bell housing to the frame on the passenger side.

After all was done I installed a charging port on the frame rail just under the start of the bed on the passenger’s side.

Maybe overkill , maybe not but I’ve never had a starting issue or light problem.

I guess the theme is to make sure all the contacts and cables are good.
