Tires

I want to replace my rear 6:50/16 mud-snow tires with regular street treads. What is the largest bias ply tires can I put on my original 4 1/2” wide rims ? Is 700/16 possible ?

Re: Tires

A tire shop should have the tire mfg data book, it will state both "design and approved" rim widths. Generally it is one size narrower and one size wider than the design width. Vary from that at your own risk. Rim width locates the bead over the tread, too wide and the bead is outside the tread, too narrow and the bead is too far inside. this can effect a lot.
Physically with enough force, you can fit just about any 16" tire on any 16" rim, but that doesn't mean you should.

Re: Tires

7.00 is about as wide as you would want to go on a 4.5 wide wheel. 7.50 would be pushing it..
Coker Tire website will show the recommended wheel width for the tire your looking at.

Re: Tires

Here's a 7.50-16 on a 4 1/2" wheel.

Re: Tires

Ok; I am now searching 215/85/16 radial tires. I have A tubeless that size mounted as a spare. After four years it is still holding pressure ( of course it hasn’t been driven on either ). Any input on whether or not going tubeless on IH rims will work ? Rims are in good shape.

Re: Tires

ran tubeless on my KB-1 for 25 years, no issues, have tubeless on my KB-1 panel now, I found true 750/16 radials, 750 is sidewall height not width,

a 215/85/16 is closest to a 750 16 bias. first number is tread width, second is sidewall height
