KB5 Fuel Line to carb

On my KB5 truck there is a fuel line from the fuel pump that comes up near the carb and has a fitting. There is also a threaded fitting where the fuel line connects to the carb but they do not connect. Was there just another line that connects the two togethet or is there sometning else like a fuel filter or sediment bowl that is supposed to be there?

Stone stock likely had a solid line from the pump to the carb with only the sediment bowl on the pump as a filter.
Over the years someone likely installed an inline filter before the carb and cut the line to do so.
Up to you what you want to do.

Kind of what I figured that I would just make it work. It seems like it is stock with that fitting in the end of the line coming from the fuel pump but then I found 3 or 4 pictures of the same 214/233 engines where it just shows the fuel line coming straight from the fuel pump up to the carb and directly attaching. It will be a good place to put a filter anyway.
