Heater Motor

As I posted before I bought a VDO 12 volt motor & put it in my Barn door heater, Bolted in the factory holes in the rear, It would not work with a rheostat type switch. It would only go on at first, turning the rheostat would not work. The other problem was two many rpms. Was the original motor designed to work with a rocker or rheostat switch??

Went to O'rilly's in search of a another motor, came up with Murry PM 394. This is a double shaft three speed motor. Had to cut off one shaft & shorted the other one. Bolts right in the factory mounting holes. Battery tested in the car works good. Now I have to find a period correct 3 position switch.

Newer motors usually have 5/16 shafts, Becarefull when drilling out your fan.

The original was used with a 5 position switch. two speeds in both forward and reverse + off. The low position had a resistor coil on the back of the switch.
As far as I know, no one has found a new replacement switch being mfg today. There are some NOS switches that come up for sale every so often.
