Ford recycler. Ask for an Explorer 8.8

To clarify Nikki's post, he is suggesting replacing the whole axle assembly with a modern Ford unit. Unless you are a stickler for originality, I would agree. You could find a K series axle from someone who is upgrading, but you will be stuck with a slow ratio and hard(er) to find brake parts. It is up to you.

You will have shipping costs that may be more than the price of the Ford axle. Parts and brakes parts are almost non existent for the old IHC axles.
It is reasonable to assume the replacement IHC axle will be as worn out as the one you have.

Re: '48 KB1 Axle and brake drum

See my post about replacing the rear axle assembly. I have the original rear axle from a K1 that has almost new brakes, drums and emergency cables that I need to dispose of since I replaced it with a Ford Explorer 8.8 rear axle assembly.
