King Pin mix up

So, I got a call from my mechanic yesterday saying the king pins that I ordered were the wrong size (see pictures, new "incorrect" pins on the right). I have a 1949 KB2 (#703xx). I ordered the 7/8" king pins based on the year and model of the truck etc. It turns out I need the 3/4" king pins. They are now ordered and on their way to Ontario from Alberta. I'm guessing at some point a previous owner swapped out the axle? Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know. Funny things happen with these old trucks!

Re: King Pin mix up

They changed king pin diameter sometime during production, you have original axle,

I went thru this in 1975, the 7/8" ones were $14 at local auto parts the 3/4" ones were $75 at a vintage auto supply, a lot of cheddar for 1975

Thanks! I can assure you the 3/4" are still a lot of cheddar. Around $500.

Re: King Pin mix up

Any machine shop should be able to turn a set for much less than $500. One of the good options for the bushings is a Delrin plastic. Delrin bushings were available when I installed a new dropped axle in my Ford.
