Hi All,

I am returning to the group after a long time and hoping to finally complete the restoration. I posted details about my truck on the Introduce Yourself page.

I need muffler and tail pipe but unable to find diagram anywhere. Did the tail pipe come out the back or passenger side?

Also, need oil filter. Anyone know if the Napa part number 1011 will work?

Thank you
Kate

Hi and welcome back ! The tailpipe exits out the back on the right side of the truck, pretty much in line with the manifold pipe. If yours is still good I would measure the diameter and get a generic muffler at any parts house that fits that inlet size. You will have to be creative for the tailpipe as it will need to clear the rear axle. I fab'd one using remnants of exhaust kits I had laying around. I'm not aware of an "off the shelf" part number . It's very basic, a custom bend shop could make one up too, shouldn't cost a fortune. If I recall there's a picture of the system in the parts manual for reference. As far as an oil filter, it depends on which canister type (brand) you have. Try checking out the "parts link format" at the top of the page, on page 3 there's a post by Scottso with all the numbers and even measurements you could compare for your application. Hope this helps.

Here's a link to a new exhaust system. With a pic.

While I still had the bed off I rolled out a length of used copper tubing I had laying around and simulated the bends and length I needed and took it to a one man shop that made custom exhaust.
He got as close as he could by my rough layout. It did need a slight bend at the rear of the axle that my son and I accomplished by weighting that portion under a wheel , slipped a black iron pipe inside the new exhaust and bent it. It didn’t need much and was a little difficult but ended up great. There was a short turn-down piece at the end of the muffler that had a little dent in it. I put this on the end of the new tailpipe . Finally able to make a cruise night the first question I was asked was “ where did you get the tailpiece “. Go figure.

I have never had a tailpipe since I've owned it but I'm sure there used to be one when my Dad owned it.
Its been long gone and I can't remember what it looked like
when I was just a kid dumping the clutch and stalling it while haying.

The info is so helpful! I appreciate you guys!

I found this filter in my truck that I just bought. I've ordered a new one to replace it. Napa 1021.

An oil filter was not standard equipment on those trucks. Several optional and aftermarket filters were used. A pic of the filter housing would probably tell which one you have.
