Fan Shroud

Does the fan shroud fasten to top of radiator or bottom? Seems either or. My shroud won't fit bottom which is where I thought it was located originally but as I was considering selling it I see it will mount to top of radiator without drilling any holes. It would certainly look good there. I have no cooling issues as radiator was rebuilt to industrial standards

Re: Fan Shroud

What does "radiator was rebuilt to industrial standards mean? "
The K series must be different than the L&R where the fan shroud mounts to the side of the rad support.
Because of the way a bladed fan works, shroud is very important, for better air flow. The fan shroud be about 75% inside the shroud and 25% outside. The shroud controls the air that is spilled off the ends of the blades and helps to move the air with the intended direction of the cooling air. A fan shroud is also a safety device. Without a properly fitted shroud, the air moved by the fan tends to return to the front of the blade. This can reduce the efficiency of the fan and reduce air flow through the radiator.
While it is still possible to have a painful chop on one's fingers, the shroud may reduce the accidental contact with the fan blades.
A side note. Never straighten a bent fan blade and put it back in service. The bending of a blade will likely have caused some nearly invisible cracking. Bending the blade back can make the compromised blade weaker. Even at an idle a fan blade is moving at a high tip speed and is capable of passing through the sheetmetal of a hood when it breaks off.

Here's a pic of original radiator and mounts on mine. I would make sense to mount on top, to me. For people finger protection and cleaner air over top of motor.

Yes that’s it. I’ll bolt mine on top as “finger saver” was suggested. I was about to post it for sale and then checked to see if it would fit on top
Obviously very rare, we have the last two on the planet

Re: Fan Shroud

Mounts near the top. Bolts to the sides. 50% better than nothing
I made the shroud for a 6.9 Diesel conversion I did in a R120. Easy stuff.
