How did the song go; something like "drove my Chevy to the levee"

I can see that My misspelled word led in a wild tangent. Something about Whiskey and Rye.
Hope OP got the info he needed.

Re: 49 kb1 running speed

A fast moving passenger train leaves Omaha at midnight traveling westbound at an average of 55 MPH. A freight train hauling imported cars leaves Portland at the same time and goes east at an average of 24 MPH. When and where will they meet? It's 1660 miles from Omaha to Portland for figgerin' reasons. Will they meet in the daylight hours?

Re: 49 kb1 running speed

The trains meet 21.01 hours after they start. So seeing that they start at midnight, that means they meet at just barely after 9 pm. They will meet 1155.7 miles from Omaha and thusly 504.3 miles from Portland. Depending on the time of year, it could still be barely daylight.

Re: 49 kb1 running speed

isn't the correct answer is that the freight train with the imported cars derails on a pass in the mountains, burns and all the cars are destroyed, so it never gets to the meeting point?

Re: 49 kb1 running speed

Yep, Mister27, that's the right answer; if it's figgered on the Union Pacific tracks that puts 'em to meet along the Snake river around Glenns Ferry. However, Misterhogue may be right saying they never meet since there hasn't been passenger trains on the UP southern Idaho tracks for years.
