Master Cylinder plug wrench

I had a bit of time on my hands yesterday, so I decided to make a T-wrench to make it simple to check the brake fluid on my master cylinder. The cap has a .75" square top so a square socket would work but I don't have any square sockets. 8-)

Milling the square "socket". Not the best mount for this, but it worked well with shallow cuts.

Re: Master Cylinder plug wrench

A tools like you made is all but impossible to fabricate without a good idea and the milling machine. I am looking forward to seeing more innovation from you.
I thought I had it "made in the shade" when I bought my first lathe. Life in the shop got so much better when I bought a milling machine.
A complicated dashboard insert for my Ford would not have been possible, for me, without a milling machine. .
I am working on a design for an insert gauge holder for a modified R&L dashboard.

Re: Master Cylinder plug wrench

Nice instrument panel! I got a bit of a chuckle out of the 120 MPH speedometer, though. I'll be lucky if I can get my truck to do 45 with the current rear axle gearing. :-)

I don't know how I ever got by without my lathe and milling machine. I'm always using one or the other to make something. I started with a 9x12 lathe and a mini-mill. They worked, but it seemed like they were really struggling on what I was using them for. Finally broke down and got the biggest bench top mill and lathe I could find at the time. They work much better! I would have gone with something even bigger, but I don't have the space. Around 10 years ago I had to pass on a bridgeport mill a friend was going to give me. Just no place to put it.

Here's some pics of an alternator belt tensioning strap I made a couple of weeks ago. The belt is one size too long but otherwise this works well. The slot is a little crude. I just drew in the slot and then hand moved the mill table to follow the curve. Kind of like a big etch-a-sketch. With more practice it would look better but it works fine.

Auto recyclers have been a good source for those alternator adjustment arms.
I made the adjustment arm from straight aluminium bar.
