BG 241 engine

Thanks to PaulH for answering my previous question on freeze plug existence and location. Went out and bought a brass freeze plug and will be busy shortly. I plan on knocking out cam plug also. One of the previous owners of my '66 Travelall envisioned himself as a u-boat captain so I never know were sludge and what not may be located.

I have another question on this motor. I notice there is a hollow brass tube that runs from one side of the engine to the other. One end of this tube is directly below the number four block freeze plug. What is the purpose of this tube?

Re: BG 241 engine

If you're talking about a tube running through the block from one side to the other, I suspect you're looking at the tube through which the throttle shaft is supposed to run. On the left (driver's side), the accelerator linkage connects to the rod that runs through the block and connects to the carburetor linkage on the right (passenger) side.
