So my rear end started leaking on driver side when parked on level surface and passenger side when parked on an angle with passenger side being the lowest. Trying to figure out what could be a solution to this. Replace rear end? Check out the master cylinders (s)? A little help please?

Re: Rear end leaking near brakes
It smells like gear oil. And my brake fluid is still full and brakes are working.

Time for axle seals. There was an article in "Cornbinder Connection" a month or so ago that said if your seals fail faster than they should, you might need to have a shop true up your axle tubes.

Axle seals and/or over filled differential.
Gotta pull rear wheels and drums and look.
Tapered axles usually means you need a puller to get drums off. Remove big nuts on ends first.
Rent one or borrow a hub puller.
Once the drums are off verify that wheel cylinders are dry.
It's also very important that there's no side to side movement of tapered axles in housing otherwise new seals by themselves won't fix leak.
Good luck!

Re: Rear end leaking near brakes
Thanks for the advice! Talked to my shop guy and he says if it's a "floating" rear end he can put new seals on it. If it's a 'covered' rear end I'll have to take it to the antique chassis place down here in New Orleans. I'll let y'all know how it works out....

Re: Rear end leaking near brakes
Generally speaking, the gear oil coming out past the drums ruins the brake shoes.
The number of old vehicles purposely run low on gear oil so it doesn't run out the axles must be huge.
