Engine swap, flywheel question

Hey anyone ever do a engine swap from a late 60's early 70's 304 to a 392 and know if the 304 flywheel will match the 392 ?

Re: Engine swap, flywheel question

It's counterintuitive, but it looks like the flywheels are interchangeable. I would've thought no. The engine blocks surely are different between 304 and 392.
Whether or not both flywheels will accept the same pressure plate is another matter. The larger engine's flywheel may not be drilled for your smaller engine's pressure plate.
At my shop, the flywheels would be labeled, and then removed to see if they would interchange.
You have to remove both engines, anyway. Why not set the two engines next to each other on the floor and see what's what.
Are you missing something? Is that why you haven't checked, yourself?

Re: Engine swap, flywheel question

I just got off the telephone with an IH guy who sells Scout parts. I\He said it has been his experience that the flywheels interchange. He also said that many of the flywheels he has seen were drilled for what he thought was different pressure plates. So, what do I get out of this? Nothing that I would take to the bank, so to speak.
Monsonmotors has the best advice, so far.
I would rather have tools I do not need than to need tools I do not have
Thinking risks being controversial and possibly being offensive
