Not much to update, but figured I'd check in. I'm in early stages of building a shop addition, haven't made much progress but I did get my engine block and head back from the machine shop. I now have new cylinders, new cam bearings, new valve guides and hardened exhaust seats. Still need to get the crank turned. This FAB3 will be like new! Also bought a set of gaskets from Olson's and currently shopping for new brake cables and shoes.

Did you have much trouble finding (wet) liners for it? (I may have asked this before, if so sorry) I know LA sleeve can make the dry (for the BLD) and I guess they could make wet as well but never asked. What about liner seals? Those two things are what have me concerned about the FAx series, I would think finding 80 year old part could be a stumbling block.
15 years ago I bought two gasket sets for the BD 282/308 and shortly thereafter Victor discontinued the set. Scrounging parts can be 1/2 the fun... until you need them, then it can be a real problem!

I really like your project ,looking forward to updates . That big pick up idea has me thinking , that is going to be one cool truck !

Cornbinder, I got the sleeves/pistons from Tom Underwood (785-749-5231). I'm not sure what all he has but it's worth a phone call if you're looking for parts.
I'm getting ready to assemble this engine and looking for any advice. It's been a few years since I've put one together and at my age every little reminder helps. One dilemma I have is torque spec's. I have not found any for a FAB model. The mains and rods both have holes in the bolts for safety wire or cotter pins so I assume the priority is to line those up after a certain torque is reached. Any suggestions?
I'm also looking for head studs. Broke two when disassembling.
Any ideas for a source? I'm looking for studs 1/2" x 6-1/4" and 1/2" x 6-7/8".

I'm late to the party and I hope you already found your head studs. But if you haven't. I called ARP and gave them the spec's I was looking for. They gave me a part number. Then I called Summit Racing and they added that part number to there roll sheet so I could buy exactly the bolts I needed. This was for a flathead grd, and if anyone is looking for studs for one of those the part number is ARP AR 3.350-1SB.

BlindSquirrel thanks for the tip. I looked all over for ARP bolts but didn't know they will make them. I'll give them a call.

Been doing a lot of waiting for my shop to be built, finally making progress and got the slab poured. Construction starts soon! I've made a little progress with the FAB3. This is the first motor I've worked on that I had to install the rods and pistons separately, pretty weird from my POV. Basically the big end of the connecting rod is too big to fit trough the cylinder, and the piston is too long to install from the bottom. This is the case even though I have the 'big bore' liners/pistons (3-1/2"). I honed the new pistons so I have a 'slip-fit' wristpin - installed the piston w/rings from the top, pushed it all the way down until there was enough room to get the rod/wristpin and snap rings installed - ok done. Went to put the crank in and found the rod bearing oil holes miss the oil passage in the connecting rod by about one diameter, so I used the dremel tool to elongate them. Next up, safety wiring all the nuts and finishing the bottom end.

Just wanted to keep this thread alive. Ok, building a shop took a while. Also distracted with steering on the Dodge, working on the OpelGT, and life in general. Here's a shot of the new shop addition (20x50) mostly for vehicle storage. If you look hard you"ll see the IHC in the corner.

I think you'll find reason for the piston conundrum is this is a wet lined engine. The piston and rods are normally installed from the bottom into the wet liner before the liner is installed in the block. Only when servicing with the liners in the block do you have to remove the rod from the piston.

I have bought parts...rod and main bearings for my GD 214 from Tom. Wonderful guy. Will talking to him more once I get my 1939 D30 home from MT. Bought in July on an auction also bought a 1972 IHC Traveall and a 1980 IHC 4200 transtar. Hoping to get that way in the next week or so.
