Plenty of old stories, that's for sure. A couple of repairs must have been done 'in the heat of battle' during harvest time. Who would replace an axle without cleaning the housing, or strap on an extra generator instead of repairing the original? Probably a farmer trying to get the crops in. Another interesting note - the top overload springs on both sides are well worn, looks like it spent most of it's life heavily laden.

My Dad had a '49 Dodge 1 1/2 ton when I was growing up. Axles failed often enough in it that they kept a spare on hand. And it just had a flathead 6 for power. Axle failure was almost always with a full load on soft ground.

Thanks to Brighad for the suggestion to try a local bearing supply for my wheel bearings. No problem, measure it up and find one that works. So now I've got all the wheels back on.
Another shot of the truck going back together.

The cab looks so good!
Recently on craigslist there was a two spindle router table for sale that was originally used 90 years ago to make internal wooden body parts for cars and trucks. He wants a $$$ for it. Only a little tooling. But it's the real deal for forming.
I'm so tempted...

If I had one of those tables I'd be tempted to re-do the wood. Apologies to the purists, but I'm planning to replace all the wood with steel, possibly excepting the floorboards. The doors will be a challenge, but I'm looking forward to it. Here's a shot of the beginning of the cab structure. I'm using light gage 1-1/2" tubing for the subframe and door posts, angle on the back panel.

Been a while since I've posted. Kind of busy selling two homes, buying two homes. Here's a couple of shots of me getting ready to tow the beast to the coast. Pretty smooth sailing on the 500+ mile trip, headwind all the way. Since I last posted, I mounted four new Firestones, 6.50x20 front, 7.00x20 rear. Still looking for a matching width rim so I can mount two remaining tires on the rear. Sheet metal was temporarily assembled for transport only.

Just moved to Lincoln City, OR. Seem to be lots of car guys here, took the Vette to a 'show' 3 days after I got here! Now I need to build a shop, it's a little cramped in my 24x24:
