C35 'pickup'

I was contemplating a new project last winter - what I really wanted was a early 30's pickup.
My son found this C35 for sale locally - a virtually complete truck, very straight body, and my wife liked it! Enough said. Not exactly a pickup, actually an old farm truck that was parked in 1958, supposedly due to a worn out fuel pump.

I'm starting this build tread in order to keep a complete record of all the questions (and answers) I'll have. I've got a few months of progress to post, mostly 'deconstruction', so I'll start with a few pictures - as found and shortly after purchase.

Check out the Montgomery-Ward heater, aluminum core.

This is my last old truck, unless I find another one.

Mike, we are brothers from different mothers!
Yes! Pickup from a Bigger Truck! Yay!
Let 'er rip!
The BED is so important. Gotta get one that looks like it belongs.
And then those rear fenders...who mighta done that...hmmm.
IMHO, putting "fat" fenders behind "Skinny" front fenders is FINE on a project like this.
BTW, I have a SRW IHC C30. It would make a perfect pickup! I will be watching closely.

A light Armoral and those tires will be good.
I like that truck more than Monsonmotors likes it. So there.
I would rather have tools I do not need than to need tools I do not have

Re: C35 'pickup'

What would be the differences in a C-30 compared to a C-35? Besides the numbers 0 and 5 there NNS. To me it looks same same so my guess would be suspension only.

Re: C35 'pickup'

C35s came with OHV six (true IHC motor) not flathead, I think. Longer engine and longer hood. They are two-ton rated.

Re: C35 'pickup'

The FAB is the wetliner predecessor to the BLD line of medium sixes. They are longer and bigger than the HD Flathead. True IHC designed engine.

Re: C35 'pickup'

Thanks for the information. I met goal today (learn something everyday) and didn't even have to try to hard. Although I must admit for a moment it felt slightly depressing. "True IHC designed engine". I think my willy's HD flathead wept a little. But then I felt better, knowing that the design was at least a proven design and was regarded highly enough to be purchased and used by another company in their product. Whew! that was close. :)

Re: C35 'pickup'

Prior to the SD series, IHC had only designed bigger (truck) engines. There were so many "vendor" engine avaiable in the 20's 30's and 40's for lighter use. By the 50's the vendor engines were kind of "long in the tooth", many were still flatheads and expectations of speed and economy dictated the need for an OHV engine.
IHC was very ahead of the curve in the 30's with its OHV and lined engine, but were more expensive to build than the vendor's and competition.
At that time, other mfg (Ford CHry and GM) were using versions of their Auto engines in trucks. IHC and White were useing their own for truck work.
