Re: 1926 S-26 IHC Custom

I know this is an IHC forum, but I was at a car show over the weekend in Bartow Fl. and came across a restoration that reminded me of this build, so I took pictures to share and for comparison. It's a 1923 Ford model TT. The plates indicate it has ties to Ohio. The wood is walnut and white oak. I don't know if it is visible in the photos but there is a plaque on the cowl in honor of the Amish craftsmen that did the wood work. The steering wheel is fabricated from wood as is this build. Much of the hardware is polished brass like the hinges. Very attractive restoration, but I don't know how "true to form" it is!

I like the woodwork, it was done by someone who has built a lot of furniture, judging by the raised panels. Very nice machine.

I sanded and clear coated the interior of the cab. I looked it over for a few days and decided to install 1/4' plywood panels in the open spaces to protect the metal on the inside. I used an ebony stain to get the blackish look on the panels and the roof skin.

Re: 1926 S-26 IHC Custom

Finally received a good, undented sheet of cold rolled steel. The first sheet arrived and it looked like they dragged it to Ottawa from Montreal. With the premium I paid to get a 5' x 10' sheet of 18 gauge steel, it should have been gold plated.

Cut the pieces out and started bending yesterday and now its all cut, fitted and ready to weld up the seams. I fabricated a skin for the entire door and wrapped it back into the window seals. The rear window was also wrapped and returned an 1" on the underside. I'm trying to make it seamless so I don't have to install the trim moldings that were used. The top will be covered over with the leather roof covering. I am going to make a sun visor for the front .

My buds in the sheet metal department bent and shaped the rear panel, my welder buddy and I bent all the door skins. Great bunch of guys, staying late on a holiday weekend to help out.

Closer and closer to being ready to paint the skins.

No, the first one bashing the metal is the sheet metal guy and the second one is the welder. I thought it be good to have them in the photos seeing how they are also working on the cab. The welder is the guy who did the welding on my fenders last year. There both great guys to work with, it also helps that were all a little bit off our rockers.

Sorry, just noticed that I hadn't attached the photo of the sheet metal guy bending the window return.

Amazing workmanship! This is good inspiration for me since I just acquired a C35 with most of the wood rotted out - going to be a long journey …
