Re: Little Red build

First off thanks Lloyd for the stickers, they look great.
Secondly I found a good deal on a set of michelin 30 x 9.5 x 15 tires for little red. They ride really nice, so I am one step closer to the journey to the concourse.

The next is a question for the mechanics in our midst. The stock suburban front suspension uses flat leaf springs. I have included pictures of where these springs attach. My thought is to pull just the upper leaf off the leaf spring and flip it upside down, so the spring would ride on top of the attachment bolts in the spring brackets. This would lower the front end by about 1"to 1.25".
Does this seem like a workable solution ?
There is a sway bar installed, should I take it of and reinstall, or just go for it?
What about steering geometry, my thought is that 1" is not enough of a change to negatively affect the ride, but please let me know your thoughts...

Re: Little Red build

I don't think that will work. The spring is arched to carry the weight that way it is so I think if you flip it it'll wind up riding on the bump stops. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody makes springs to do what you want. Those Chevys get lowered every day.

Re: Little Red build

Good call Jared, I talked to an neighbor who recommended calling Oregon Spring, in Portland. I will check with them when I return from California to see if they can cut a spring for me which will give me a better ride height.

Re: Little Red build

Good to see your truck in the passing lane and the speedo at 70!
Next question. Did your truck feel like it was at or near the aero design limits at those speeds. Mine sure does! Especially when the wipers start dancing wildly if I hit a cross wind.

Re: Little Red build

Yes it was a little breezy in the cab at 80 mph, that was the cruising speed through central CA. The next time I am traveling long distances in august I might pull the windshield wipers off. They were blowing around at speed. I was worried they were going to blow off into oblivion, but they held on. That truck has 3.42 gears which helps to keep the RPMs down on a long haul. We could still pull most big inclines at 65-70 mph.

It is an AEC MATADOR.

Yes I remember now the Matador, the people representing the vehicle said it was found and restored in Europe recently and shipped overseas for the concourse.

Re: Little Red build

Glad you had a good trip! What mileage figures did you see? I'm sure the pickup body is lighter than the 'Burb body and the aerodynamic drag probably isn't much worse.
