Re: Brad's 1954 R Series Build

I hope yall had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I finally got off my tail yesterday and did some work on the rear fenders and the tailgate.

Both fenders required a little surgery in the same spot to repair rust.

The tailgate is beat up pretty good. Not to mention that at some point, was "customized" to be made to mount a little different than factory. I am going to get it looking decent at least, and i had to repair a few spots, but i am not going to change the engineering that the previous builder used. the bars that were welding in basically slide into metal slots and are just held in with a bolt. It'll work just fine for this build.

I like the finish on the truck, looks easy to keep clean.

Do you worry about welding sparks settling in the carpeting? My buddy lost his shop to fire last night, might have been a spark with sawdust about. Just curious.

I did pull the rugs back, however, not before i smelled some smoke and noticed my mistake. I'll definitely be pulling them back out of the way when welding in that area in the future. :)

Thank you for the nice comments.

Re: Brad's 1954 R Series Build

Got a little primer and initial body work done this weekend. I think my tailgate is actually ready for the top coat. The tailgate is pretty lumpy for sure.....but I did the best i could to get it straight enough to look good in the bed liner.

The fenders have a lot of dings and dents that need fixed. I also have the front bumper striped and then primed.

What an awesome Sunday. I am going to try to get the fenders on tonight to complete the outside of the truck!

I think the look is finally completed. I'm super proud to cruise around in this machine.

My next project is to install a fuel pressure regulator. Currently, my fuel pump is running about 9lbs, but i am having a slight surge issue when she gets hot and sits idling for a period of time (traffic/drive through line). I have read that 5lbs is ideal for these edlebrock carbs. So, i'll get that added and will hopefully solve that issue.
