My 52 L110 Project

Here is a couple of Photos before i took the front clip off and the interior out, I plan on ordering my mustang 2 IFS next week or the week after, working on installing the 4 speed that mates to the 390 ford, and sealing up the rust before fixing the floor pans, enjoy the picks and yes it has a electric over hydualics dump bed on it. This truck has been in my family since 1987, My dad bought it when the house caught fire to haul all the destroyed stuff out, I was 17. He gave it to me for inheritance (could be a money pit) Considering i have a 67 galaxie convertible show car, and a 69 chevy truck that is show decent but use it in summer.

Hi Mark. Nice to see another L 110 build on the forum. It is always nice to work on something you have history with, nothing can replace good memory's. I'm sure it will be worth all the time and money the first time you turn that key.

Happy building!

Nice truck Mark, and thanks for the pictures! Just a general observation, but look how nice that truck stands with a full load of dirt. If you put that much dirt on a modern half ton truck the front bumper would be about 4 feet in the air and the back about 1 foot off the ground. These IHCs were made to work!

Yea that was exactly what i noticed when we were hauling all the dirt with it last summer, Just as you say a new truck the front end would be up high and bumper dragging... IHC muscle

Re: My 52 L110 Project

A long time ago -1978 - I believe it was, when everything on my truck was original, I needed to haul some gravel for my Tennessee home driveway improvement. 2,500# is what I hauled back from the quarry - carefully! Needless to say the front end was a little light, but it made the 10-15 mile trip no problem. I think a steady diet of that kind of load would have resulted in some problems, but the trucks can handle normal loads well.

Re: My 52 L110 Project

Its always little harry when you over load them i did the same with a 78 ford, hauling Marcos Pizza supplies, I had so much on it the front end was light, Steering was not good over 35 mph. When i get a chance this weekend i will get a few pics of the inside gutted and the front clip off before i pull the motor and tranny. Hoping to have it back running by summer end. Wont be a complete restore but a good start, Then i will do more through the winter. Will post pics as I go through the process. Check out the 65 1300a restoration i did in the link i have posted

Re: My 52 L110 Project

These R&L trucks were on most of the farms when I was a kid. I was 8 when Dad bought his R120. Broken frames and more often broken axles were very common on the pickups lighter than the R120. The frames are not as heavy duty as one might think. The L110 frame we are building is .125" or 1/8". Of the more than a dozen R&L we have owned this L is the first one, we've owned, to not be cracked. The local joke was, "Binder build a strong box and cab to hold the frame together ".
