Looking good! I'm watching. This may be something I do in the future.

Re: '55 R-122 rehab

Thanks Dean

Harnesses are all laid out in their basic locations.

The ECU has a home. I still need to create a bracket for it but this is where it's going to live. The wiring length is perfectly suited for this location.
Image

I decided to keep the GM oil pressure sender. I tapped the oil sender stand off (from an Astro van) for 1/8" NPT opposite the 1/4" NPT port so that I could install both the GM and IH sending units.
Image

Feed and return fuel lines are trimmed to length and slid onto the hard lines attached to the TBI. MAP sensor found it's home on the firewall just behind the fuel lines.
Image

I created a relay panel that attaches to the firewall using the original voltage regulator hardware.
Image

Lots more to do, but I'm making headway.

Re: '55 R-122 rehab

A little more progress today. I fab'd brackets for the coil and the ICM. I've got a working throttle cable bell crank. I may make the bell crank out of a smaller piece of metal as some point, but for now this is what I pulled out of my scrap bin.

Working on the pedal end of the throttle next.

Re: '55 R-122 rehab

Didn't take pics today. List is getting shorter by the day. The quick disconnect style GM fuel filter is mounted to a bracket attached to the frame rail and is spliced into the feed line. I just finished welding in the O2 bung and I have a good start on the gas pedal side of the new throttle cable. Hope to finish that tomorrow then it's onto the ECU mount. Once that's sorted and the chip/data logging cable arrive I'll install the T-body, Dist, coolant sensor, ziptie up the wiring, do final checks/adjustments before hitting the key for the first time. Shouldn't be long now at all. :-)

Re: '55 R-122 rehab

I've only managed an hour in the garage this weekend and it's looking like my free time tomorrow and Tues is quickly dissolving as well. Oh well, here's my progress from today.

Image

The adjuster body is bored. The nuts have been turned in half. The bracket is welded up. All that's left to do on this end is to create the cable end swivel that attaches to the bell crank and then shorten the rod between the pedal and the bell crank/adjust the pedal stop to ensure W.O.T. Still hoping to scratch together enough time to hear it run on EFI before Turkey day. Time will tell.

Re: '55 R-122 rehab

I like the way you think outside of the engine compartment. Your adapting other application components should be an inspiration to a few other persons. Good and well designed brackets and adapter go beyond mechanics and enter art.
I suppose you are wearing the black nitrile gloves because you are an OBGYN when not working on your Binder and you forgot to take the gloves off. :haha:
My biker friend and I were in a biker bar, imagine that, when a female person asked what I did. I told her I was a retired OBGYN. She said, "I will show what I got if you shoe me what your do." I said I was out of practice but I may be interested in taking a good look.
The shop I used to work in often got school kids doing a tour. I would stretch a nitrile glove over my shaved head and have a very small plastic tube going from my mouth up and into the glove. When the kids were looking, I would blow the glove up and the fingers would stand up like a rooster. I always got a laugh from the kids. Too much air and the glove would fart and take off.

My wife doesn’t like me rummaging around with dirt under my nails. I’ve found that this brand (Raven) of 6mil gloves seem to provide me with the most durable gloves. Color is incidental.

Im surprised that in the great white north that anyone might take you up on a free “look under the hood” given your excellent “free” healthcare system. Nothing against you in particular, just a general “why not go to a clean doctors office?”.

Peek-a-boo is just for fun. The Doctor visits may not be, so much.

Re: '55 R-122 rehab

Didn't manage any garage time for personal stuff until 1:30am this morning. I got a few things done, but no where near where I wanted to be by now... I managed to finish the last part for the throttle cable. It's made of SS so it shouldn't corrode and bind up. I also cleaned and resealed the TBI. I also managed to get the Eprom swapped in the ECU.

I feel as if the list of to-dos is still quite long. In reality there are only 1 or 2 more time consuming items. The rest is just little stuff.
