1953 L110

Hello! I've been a member for some time but have not been active. I have an 1953 L110 which I owned a number of years ago as part of an apple orchard in Yakima, Washington. When I sold the orchard in 1981 the L110 stayed with the orchard. About 8 years ago I got the crazy idea to buy it back. My Son and I used to enjoy driving it up in the hills and also driving it around the state to his motocross races. The orchard owner sold it to me, not in running condition and sitting in a field for many years. Not much happened until this past spring when I had a shop built at my new residence. Since then, I have completely disassembled the truck down to the cab sitting on the frame. I have completely stripped off the rust and paint on all components. Nice bright unpitted metal underneath! This winter I will take the components to the body and paint shop. Lots of dents from many years of orchard use! Being a young fellow 80 years of age,I hope to get the rebuild done by next summer so my Son and have some years of enjoyment with our toy! Looks like I will need a new rear bumper, many engine parts, interior door panels, and interior door handles and window cranks. Any help out there?

Welcome to the site!
You can post in the parts wanted area for individual parts needed and look to see if parts for sale are ones you need. You will probably find that a used, running engine is a lot cheaper than a complete overhaul.
Looking forward to pictures of your truck.

Welcome, I look forward to see your progress with your L. The L series is pretty popular on this site and a lot of us own Ls, mine is a 52 L110.

Re: 1953 L110

BRJ prefers the "L"" over the "R". My father had an "R". While I like the "R" a little more, I also have a warm feeling for the "L".
My friend builds high-end Cummins powered IHC 4X4 pickups. He prefers the "L" because of the extra room behind the grill, for an intercooler.
These early 1950s IHC pickups are really good candidates for upgraded running gear.

Re: 1953 L110

I've never had a reason to consider the amount of space behind the grill in an 'L' or an 'R,' but if I had I would have reckoned them to be roughly equivalent. You learn something new every day.

Re: 1953 L110

This post has been up for a couple weeks now and I’m surprised no one’s mentioned about the 1953 and L discrepancy. Are you sure it’s a ‘53 AND an “L”-110? International started making the “R” 110 for 1953. The real changes for the R model were to the front sheet metal/grill and the front of the hood resulted in some different shape above the grill. The hinge/latching mechanism for the hood was changed as well. If your title in fact says 1953 and L110, your truck may be the result of actually being built for the 1952 year run, but sat on a dealers lot until purchased in 1953. Some states would title the vehicle based on the date the title processed. Therefore a truck manufactured for 1952 e.g would end up called a 1953. (The state laws did that to you, not the mfg.) The serial number/frame stamp can assist you in running down the approx. date of mfg. Once you get those photos up, we’ll be able to tell if its an L or R.
L110 owner since 1974, finally rebuilt 2014.

Re: 1953 L110

I think a lot of us have encountered one of these, my L is titled as a 53 by Oklahoma.

Re: 1953 L110

This thread is going into year two and no pictures.
While we know an "L" is up to and including 1952, and the 'R" is 1953 and some years after. In many places the year of vehicle registration becomes the year.

Re: 1953 L110

And that's the thing: Each state has different rules.
Technically, the L-series runs 1950-52. BUT if a '50 was sold in '49, in some states, it would be titled as a '49. And if a '52 was sold in '53, it would be titled as a '53.

But not in EVERY state.
