Re: My '55

in the beginning it's always quick progress, then the details start and that is very time consuming. But my goal is to be ready next spring for a local hot rod meet.

With the "raised" bed floor, are you also going to raise the hinge point of the tailgate to match the new bed floor height, and then maybe "section" the gate? If you section it above and below the INTERNATIONAL letters, you can keep the general shape of the stamping, and only lose some height to the gate.

Of course, I never said that would be easy. I simply meant that it seems possible.

Re: My '55

I am going to leave the tailgate where it is and as it is, no sectioning. I have decided to build a raised floor and a sort off a tonneau cover at the top. The cover at the top will be wood, almost looking like a wood floor in a bed. Probably split, the first 2/3 is fixed, then a hinge, the back 1/3 you can lift up, for storage access underneath. I have a stainless steel keg I want use as the gas tank. laying sideways in the front of the bed, with maybe a 1/4 showing through a cutout in the wood cover.

I probably end up building most of the tailgate new, it has some rust issues. But I do want to keep the center area, with the international stamped in it.

Re: My '55

Maybe, if you were to hinge the tailgate in the original place, there might be enough space under the bed and behind the tailgate to house the spare tire??

Re: My '55

the back area will be empty, between the frame rails. So there is more space under the top cover, that's why I want to use that as a storage area, for chairs, maybe the spare tire. The spare tire mount on the side is definitely going away and the fender will be filled in

Re: My '55

You might find someone with a long bed that is looking for the "cutout" fender of a short bed. Might save time for you and "save" a short bed fender. Just me thinking out loud.

Didn't think about that. But the shipping of such a big, heavy item would be quite high.
