Here is what I was talking about, Rubber Washers.

Close up of rubber washer, as you can see it has an offset hole and you can loosen screw and rotate it for more contact to glove box door.

You could also place the little rubber stops for cabinet doors , just under the hinge section. the magnet Idea is good, you could fasten them to where the cardboard box screws into the side of the opening, or even where the rubber washers are placed.

Re: '50 L112 Build

Thanks Lloyd for posting the photos. That clears up a lot for me. When my builder stripped the truck, he must has removed those washers and then didn't remember to put them back. It seemed only reasonable that the door shouldn't be so loose, but I couldn't remember what went there.
Now that we have hi-jacked Rich's thread, it's time to turn it back over to him. Sorry Rich.

Re: '50 L112 Build

No problem guys....I'm sure I'll have the same issue once I attatch the gloves box and door. I don't recall any rubber washers. I try to take pics when dissembling as I tend to forget things. If I make a wooded handle for the Ash tray I'll post a pic.

You can see in the pic behind where the ash tray mounts what the original color of the dash was.

Re: '50 L112 Build

What a beautiful roll-top desk! And the snow people look like they are very content to be part of your family! Good workmanship! I've always wanted to produce fine furniture, but the cost and availability of hardwoods has always kept me from it. And now that we are empty nesters, the misses doesn't want anymore furniture added to the house. I suppose I could make some furniture to sell and feed my L110 with the proceeds.

The dash color (under the ash tray) is the same as mine used to be. Rustoleum makes a paint that comes in 3 or 4 colors (rattle cans) that they call "Hammer Tone". I know there is gold, silver, copper and I'm not sure what else, but the silver Hammer Tone seems to be a reasonable replica of the original IH dash color/finish, however, the hammer tone effect is a little bolder than original. Other paint companies have a similar product with varying hammer tone effects. (My :t3901; .02 worth)

Keep up the good work. Full speed ahead!

Re: '50 L112 Build

Thank You WEW51L110. To help with wood cost...I sometimes get trees for free (Storm damage, dying) and have them sawed into boards.
So now it's only costing $.030 a board ft instead of $3.00+. Neighbor has one of the portable band saw mills. More labor involved though. Cherry and Walnut and Oak seem easy to find here in PA.

I did look at the "Hammered" paint selections in the stores and considered that. Then decided to match the "International" lettering on the ash tray instead.

Here in Ohio there is an abundance of white Ash since the ash borers have killed most ash trees in the area. I work with a guy who has a Woodmizer sawmill. He says the ash wood has great grain in it.

Re: '50 L112 Build

To this day, I still regret not being able to do anything with the spalded maple that I had to cut down at my mom's in Va. Tree was dying and the potential to fall on passing cars was great. Living in Florida, visiting in Va., I just did not have anyway to get it back to Fl. Beautiful wood and lots of it. Oh well, one of those missed opportunities life thrusts toward us on occasion.
