'45 International K5

I have ran across a 1945 International K5 in exceptional condition, other than the excessive amount of pigeon droppings. I am new to restoration, and probably should have chosen an easier project for my first attempt, but I like the challenge. I am trying to plan this restoration, but having very little luck finding information on original paint colors, seat coverings & style, optional equipment offered, etc. This K5 has, attached to the grain box by the passenger door, a three canister kerosene hazard “thingy” that I would like to find out if it is an add-on or an option from International. I tried to download some photos, but the file was too big. I will try again later. Thanks for your help in advance, and I’m sure I will have many more questions to come.

Re: '45 International K5

Hello;
My father bought a 1945 Ks5 new ,it came in to the dealer in January. He had waited 3 years to get the proper papers do to the war effort.
The truck was very simple, it had 6 wheels a seat, a steering wheel and a key, that was about all. It had no antifreeze in it, no vacuum booster on the brakes (the brakes were very poor until he added a vacuum booster) no heater, the heater had to be added from the aftermarket.
Dad built a 14 ft. flat bed on it too haul farm machinery , he also installed a power take of powered winch on it.
He used it until the early 60s, and that was one of the trucks that I learned to drive on.
It was not very fast or very powerfull.
Your post brings back a lot of memories.

I have a similar "flare" set to what you describe that came off a 40's Dodge truck. I would say they were prob available through the dealer, but don't know for sure. I saved the flares and painted them up. Put the fluid for mosquito torches and use around the patio. Makes for good conversation and a cool reuse for them. When not in use they stack in the bracket.

Re: '45 International K5

When I got my KBS-6 it had 3 kerosene smoke pots under the seat on the passenger side . I imagine that it also served as an air freshener . I remember these things being used as road flares late 50's , I think .....? thought it was pretty cool . Also as a safety feature was a fire estinguisher that was filled with some stuff that I think was pretty hazardous itself . Certainly different times .
