winter build

Hello again.
Its been a long time since I was here, but thought I would check in again.

I had a buddy send me this truck as a surprise and I thought I would try something different.
I have done a jag clip, and olds v8 swap in my other truck, but this time I wanted to try an s10 swap.
Its been a pretty smooth build so far. I used an 85 gmc sonoma . A little 305, and turbo 350.
My truck is 47 Kb2.
I thought I would need to alter the wheel base, or shorten the kb, but it fits pretty good. I used a short box, extended cab.

I bought headers for an s10 v8 swap, built my own engine mounts, and trans mount. I am using the s15 diff, with 355 gears.

Not sure if I want to go electric or mechanical fuel pump yet, but I am using the s10 column, fuel tank and brake booster.
I am using the kb rad, and after market gauges in a home made dash.
I am also using 1 1/2" wheel spacers on all 4 corners. I haven't altered the s10 ride height yet, but we will see how it goes.
I was originally going to try and make a flip front end, but decided against it for now.

Re: winter build

Nice! Looks like you have the fab skills to make things fit. Did you have to change the wheelbase?

Re: winter build

I helped put a '53 Chebbie 1/2 ton body on an S-10 frame for my old boss. I was amazed at how relatively easy those two components that were never in any way intended to be used together went together. We used a kit with body mounts specifically for the job, which simplified the job greatly.

Re: winter build

At first I thought I may have to alter the wheel base, but I moved the front clip back as far as I could, then placed the cab on.
When I did that, I could drop a bolt, directly though the original KB rear cab mount, and it fell rite into the s1o cab mount.

I pushed the box as far forward as I dared, and thats how it worked out. I was going to just move the fenders forward if I needed to but I was pretty happy with the look.

original cab bolt through s10 hole. I just added a 4.5" nylon block to fill gap

Re: winter build

Pretty much done. Just need to do a few days driving to find any problems.
It was a pretty easy swap onto the S10.
It drives great, stops and turns great, and the little 305 is plenty powerful, and works good with the 345 gears and a 3 speed auto.
I think it may drive better than the Jag front I have in my blue one.

I would recommend this swap, and would be willing to lend some info if I could help anyone thinking of doing it.

Re: winter build

Just about done. I think a couple more weekends, to fine tune, road test, window seals, and one more finish coat of "Satin black"
I am pretty happy with the color, just a base coat black, no clear.
I put in a 288 geared diff, but its way too tall for the green diamond. So this week, I am putting in a 355 ratio diff I have, and that should be a better ratio.
