Those are some great tires! I'd love to have a set like 'em on my dump truck.

Re: 1948 KBS 6

Is it really a posi, or does the frame flex and absorb the torque reaction so that there is no significant difference in loading between the right and left sides?

Re: 1948 KBS 6

I've been doing some research in the back field . will let you know . I'm going to jack up one side and then the other . but so far when I gas it both wheels spin in a straight line , but when I do it in a turn the out side wheel spins a lot faster .

I'm really not sure what is going on with it Dean , I'm trying to understand what you are saying , I don't know how they work. All I remember of the old rear is that only one wheel had traction but I don't remember if that switched , I'm thinking it must have because both axels had splines and gears . Was it limited slip ? The carrier thats in there now is from a ww2 military surplus . and I don't know if that makes a difference but was hoping for some more feedback .

Re: 1948 KBS 6

No!!!!! again NO! both wheels are driven but with a differntial between them. That means that for a given input both side can turn at the same speed, or one can be stopped and the other turn double. if one side has no or little traction it will spin at double speed but they are both driven when going streight.

Re: 1948 KBS 6

manic,
Almost all automotive engine crankshafts turn clockwise when viewed from back of the engine. When each cylinder fires it pushes against the cylinder head which is bolted to the block, causing the engine to try to rotate in the opposite direction. In a short wheelbase car or truck this twisting force is transferred through the frame and/or body and unloads the right rear wheel. In a truck like yours with no body on the back and a relatively long wheelbase, very little of that twisting force reaches the back of the frame, so all back tires have about the same amount of traction.
