It's amazing how time slips away the older we get, a subject that's been bemoaned here before by other members of the forum. But life happens and we can only roll with it the best we can. Nonetheless I finally got around to sharing my latest addition to the '49. When fellow member Wylie offered up his extended running boards for sale a couple of years ago (it could be longer than that my memory is another thing that's slipping away lol) I was fortunate to be able to obtain them. They were in great shape and included the frame mounts and hardware. Apparently IH in the day joined the box boards to the cab boards with spot welds, which were meticulously drilled out by Wylie. For some reason I needed to lose about an inch in length to make them fit between my fenders and since I wasn't fond of the spot weld method anyway I trimmed the length getting rid of some but not all of the holes. After filling the holes with common 3/8" washers I welded and filled the remaining voids. Some grinding and filling was needed to repair a few dings and the rest of the spot welds where the supports were fastened to the boards so they weren't visible on the top surface. Primer and paint finished the process.
