Nice work. I really like the two tone paint. I see hours and hours of work tapping and spraying the second color. Great attention to detail.

Re: My 1949 KB-1

Thanks guys, it was a lot of work, and I questioned my decision to go this route many times half way through(lol). Beer helps. I usually always shoot 3-4 coats of clear and cut/buff to get rid of flaws/mistakes. Dust is inevitable without a booth, but I can usually "fix" it. Not sure if shocks are std or optional but my truck had them.

Where did you learn your skills? And, on your $20 flea market find rear light, what vehicles might that have come from?

Re: My 1949 KB-1

Self taught, a formal course here and there, always been a gearhead. I'll watch others, ask questions, read books, whatever. Mostly just dive in and figure it out as I go. Believe me, results have not always been to my liking but I try and do it better the next time. That light is stamped 1928 Studebaker AF so I'm guessing it's of the late 20's -30's era. It had some rust and dings, peeling chrome, was missing the bottom license plate clear glass. Fab'd a metal plate to replace the glass, knocked out the dings, polished the chrome until I got down to the brass, painted the housing body color. Two tables down a guy had the chrome conduit for $5.00, polished it up and I used an old coil wire boot to seal the conduit to the back of the light socket. The turn/tail lights and mounting brackets are Speedway Motors re-pop '33-'36 Ford items. Good luck with your panel, those trucks are way cool!

Re: My 1949 KB-1

I don't look in this section much, Fantastic work !!!!!! your truck looks like what mine always wisshed it could have looked like,

I love that you are doing everything yourself,

my carclub puts on a huge show every year, and we see so many what I call "checkbook restorations" that I always give awards to the guy who did his own work over the checkbook one even if checkbook one is more perfect,

there is something about taking pride in your work that overrides affording the best restorer,

Re: My 1949 KB-1

Thanks Jon, your kind words are most appreciated. We are on the same page as far as "checkbook" resto's. I do all my own work 'cuz it's a challenge and I enjoy it. (Most of the time, lol) I suppose if I had deep pockets I would have a shop do my projects too but . .
