C40 id plate info, 2-3 ton?

Hello,
I recently bought a 1936 C40 project truck, but it's missing the id plate. I found a blank plate on ebay, but need to know what info to stamp on it. Does anyone have some pic's of a C40 id plate they are willing to share? Feel free to block the serial number if you'd like. I know it may not be exactly the same depending on the wheelbase and so on. I'm just trying to get something close. My truck has the 170" wheelbase, so if anyone has the info for that it would be great but the info from any C40 would be useful. I did find the chassis number on the frame, so at least I have that info.

Also, the C40 is listed as a 2-3 ton truck. Does anyone know what that means? It that based on options such as gearing, and if so, what options determine if it's 2 ton or 3 ton?

Thanks,
RJB

Re: C40 id plate info, 2-3 ton?

1st, the C is the best looking IHC ever made, in my opinion, so congrads!
The chassie serial number should be stamped in the frame by the left front spring hanger, It should start with the series (C-40) and then the number
Engine number should be on the left front of the block between #1 and #2 cyl at the block/head parting line.
C series is before my time/experience but I am guessing it has a FAB series engine, but I could be wrong.
The GVW was based on what the truck was spec'd with, so it can vary from truck to truck within the same series. Springs and tires are the biggest determining factor Sometimes brake also.

Thanks, and yup, the looks of the C series is what drew me to consider the International trucks. The downside is that it won't fit in my garage. Mine has the FAB3 engine, and the chassis number was on the front left frame but only has the 5 digit number and not the C40 on it. The number is in the correct range for a 1936 C40. I doubt I'll ever get the exact info for the weights for the id plate, but I'm hoping I can get something that is close enough. This truck will never be restored to concourse condition, so I just want something that looks right and won't confuse the DMV when I get around to registering it.

That isn't the tag the truck should have. I don't have a picture but it doesn't list axle loads only GVW etc. I think someone posted a thread about replacement tags that might be correct for your year.

Thanks, and I hope you are right. So far I haven't been able to find the thread you mentioned. I found a picture of the plate for a 1937 C30 with this plate on it, so I assumed it was the same for the 1936 C40. So does anyone have a picture of the id plate from a 1936 C40?

I found a pic of an ID plate for a 1935 C35, but am still looking for a pic of one from a C40. Interesting that it actually shows "1 1/2 to 2 ton" in the model info. I was guessing but thought it would be defined by build configuration. The pic is barely readable, but here it is if anyone else is interested.

Ok, when I'm wrong, I'm wrong. They must have switched to the other style with the D series, I know the K had the other plate.

No problem. Just wish I could find a pic of a filled in C40 plate!
