Has anyone had the pleasure of removing the fuel gauge lever from inside the tank without having to open up the fuel tank? I put the POR15 cleaner into the tank and the lever is now moving, but its not completely free. Looks like it was riveted on before the tank was assembled.

Oft times on older tanks, the fitting was riveted, and soldered.
Just a heads up.

I'm guessing the only way would be to split the tank.

Is that tank under the seat or under dash? I have one that goes under seat out in shop.

Its under the dash. Its not rotten, just trying to get the float to move freely.

I resoaked the tank wit a 1 to 1 mix of POR15 cleaner degreaser for the whole day. The floats moving free now, just had to do it twice.

Well, i have the float freed up, but the needle has fallen out of the gauge.
Does anyone know how they work?
I cant see anything turning to rotate the needle, is it a magnet in the housing that pulls the needle indicator?
Any help would be appreciated before I tear it appart.
