38 D-2 Master Cylinder

Does anyone know where I can get replacement parts to rebuild the master cylinder on my 38 D-2?
Thanks

Hey George,
Thanks a bunch. I went down to my local Napa today, and it'll be here in the morning

Hey Jim,

Hopefully the rebuild kit works out, I rebuilt My master cylinder but have not installed it into My truck yet
as I'm getting it ready paint, hopefully I'll be done sometime this decade.

Re: 38 D-2 Master Cylinder

Hey, thanks again. I rebuilt it today and it worked great. Now I need to rebuild wheel cylinders it seems.
Yeah, I'm being real careful as mine is all ready painted. If you hear of a rebuild for the wheel cylinders I would appreciate the info.
The old parts in the old Master cylinder were so badly damaged that we weren't sure exactly how it went together ( the new kit). We found an exploded view on the net that showed how to do it. If you need that image at any point, lemme know and I'll send it to you

Re: 38 D-2 Master Cylinder

Hey Jim,

I don't know of any rebuild kits but maybe someone else out there can help with that but if You need the wheel cylinder try part # WC14497, there
almost a perfect fit except the cylinder size is just a bit smaller. There was a thread on the old forum a while back and I believe this part # came up as the closest fit. Oh I got mine at Rock Auto.

the rebuild kit listed for the 41 k1 trucks @ rock auto should work. They use the same wheel cylinder.

If it's not too late,53-54 Chevrolet passenger car and Corvette wheel cylinders are a direct replacement part for your wheel cylinders, and you can buy them new for less than 15 bucks each. IIRC,I bought mine from Amazon.com,but lots of people sell 53-54 Chevy stuff,so you can probably get them from Napa,Rock Auto,Advance Auto,O'Reillys, etc, etc, etc.

Wheel Cylinders – all 4 are Wagner F14497

Just in case your master cylinder was too worn to hold pressure and you need to buy a new or rebuilt one,it's a Wagner F1722

All 3 Brake hoses are F3700 or BH3700. I had no luck finding them so I bought all three from the guy from Argentina that sells them on ebay, and was very happy with the deal. Pretty quick shipping, look like high quality items, and they fit perfectly.

As long as you are doing all this,I strongly recommend going ahead and running new brake lines, too. You can see rust on the outside, but there is no way to tell how much rust is on the inside or how thin they are,and with a single outlet master cylinder this is cheap insurance.

Replying to OLD thread to make it easier to find again.
Great info, even better if someone can tell me if a 36 C-1 with hydraulic brakes is the same as the 38 D-2.

I hope to get my old ones off this week.
