ALL medium six's have the engine family, displacement, and serial number STAMPED into a pad at the block/head parting surface inbetween #1 and #2 cyl on the drivers side. It will start with the family, followed by the displacement and the serial number last.
IT will look something like this: BLD269
248xxx

OK. Now I am confused... I am pretty sure that I read in the d35 manual that the engine was a FAB 241. So I went out to see if it was stamped on the ID tag. No engine listed on it. So my question is this. Is the FAB engine the same as a green diamond? So now I picked up a 1941 K1 1/2 ton and it has a Green Diamond in it. Now I am wondering if the 41 K1, the 38 D35 and the KB6 can all have green diamonds? I need to do more research but is there a way to tell if an engine is a GHD based on physical outside characteristics?

One down. Confirmed the 1938 D35 has an FAB241. Stamped on the block.

No a GRD is a completely different engine, for one it is a flat head not OHV. The FAx series is close kin to the BLD, the main difference (other than displacement) is the FAx series are wet lined and the BLD are dry lined. (cyl bore liners)
Nothing on the GRD is the same as the FAx/BLD. Most of the externals on the FAx and BLD will be the same , there are a few minor exceptions.
The HD/GRD was used in the smaller D and K series, the FAx and BLD were used in the medium D and K and the FBx and RED were used in the larger D and K
