D2 Windshield

We want to replace a bad piece of glass and install a new rubber seal that will actually "seal", but have run into a problem. Does anyone have suggestions/tips on how to separate the windshield inner & outer frame from the petrified rubber seal? We have tried heat, breaking off the exposed pieces, etc... don't want to destroy the frames. Both pieces of glass are intact right now.

Wish I could help, but am not to your point yet in my own restoration. Please let us know how you end up doing this, and best of luck.

May try to use a dead blow hammer to tap around the metal frame to see if that will allow the metal to break away from the hardened rubber. Will try this later and report back.

Re: D2 Windshield

Well we got the old seal off of the frame. Started by breaking off any pieces that we could get pliers onto, then broke off/shattered more smaller pieces with dead blow hammer, then used a torch & heat gun to melt the remainder and pried it out of the groove/channel in little sections (1/4" at a time) It took a whole lot of heat & a whole lot of time, but the seal is gone now.
