type of oil?

I was just wondering what would be a good recommendation for a engine break in oil? and running oil? Or additives to keep it running strong?

Re: type of oil?

I would just go with a high quality 10w-30 or 10w-40 motor oil. The oil we have today only resembles the oil that they had when these engine were new, in name.
Viscosity requirements depend on clearances during the rebuild. Flow is more inportant then pressure.
I've heard a lot of chatter about flat tappet vs roller tappet and what oil, but in just about ever aspect, todays oil exceed what the 1930's oil could do.
It is unlikely you are going to work this rebuilt engine like the truck was made for back in the day, hard days at full thottle pulling a load.
I wouldn't loose much sleep of the selection of what went in the crankcase.

Re: type of oil?

I put 10-30 in my recently assembled rebuilt 214, good oil pressure, it only has about 1 hr. stationary run time so far,

once the truck is done I'll drive it gently for a while then change the oil,
