Model K owner needs help

Model K owner needs help

I have a 1920 Model K IHC truck. Does anybody know what the valve adjusting specs are? I have the Model K Instruction Book, but nowhere that I could find, does it give the valve adjustment. All it says is that "It will be noticed that the gap between this screw and the valve end in some of our motors is greater than usual practice." Could anybody give me some numbers to go by?

Thanks, Keith Ernst

Re: Model K owner needs help

my 1925 book states the proper clearance is .004" when the tappet is resting on the back of the cam or is at its lowest point and the engine is cold. When the engine is running under a heavy load and is hot, the clearance will be reduced, due to the expansion of the valve stem.
The 1926 book states clearance should not be less than .004" and a maximum of .006" for the 4 cylinder engine and .006" minimum and .008" maximum for the 6 cyl engines
