D-2 VIN Decoder, build numbers

I'm wondering a couple things. First, is there a way to tell from the VIN (chassis number) what the original color was, and what number truck it was to be built? Also, is there somewhere that has the information on how many of each model was built for each year? Talking about a '38 D-2. Thanks!

No the serial number is just that, a sequential number applied as the chassie went down the line. A Line set ticket will tell how it was spec'd.
WHS has the numbers of how many were built in each year.

WHS should also have papers that list the paint colors available for that year/series
