Are the d2 u joints the same as th k1 or does any one know where to get them?
I found u joints for the k series but none listed for the d series.

Re: U joint?

FYI,
The PUJ 530 all 4 wings are threaded and is a Mechanics 3C series.

Click Specifications for measurements.

If yours has 2 threaded and 2 drilled wings I may have the pn for it.

Curious to where you found the K's listed? I looked in the MT-52D and there are a few different U-J's depending on trans. type and chassis number.

Re: U joint?

I found the parts for the k model trucks listed here.

Looking from left to right the fourth one listed looks like the one used on a D2.

Re: U joint?

You really can't (and shouldn't) go by a photo. Look at the one George posted and the one I just crossed, can you see a difference? I can't.
Now look at the specs of them both, the 530 is a 3C series and the 540 is a 4C series. I have reservations the 540 is right for a D2.

I crossed the pn you posted...

Like the 530 this UJ has 4 threaded wings, again,be sure that is what you have. Both series also have UJ's with 2 threaded and 2 drilled (bored) wings and 4 bored wings. Generally if the yoke/flange is threaded that is where a bored wing is used,if the yoke/flange is bored, the wing is threaded.

Here's a link for a GKN/Rockford catalog (current mfr. of Mechanics)
http://www.gkn.com/landsystems/brands/r ... ction8.pdf

It has a good illustration on how to correctly measure this type of U-J and one of all the different types of U-J's with wings/blocks plus others.

Dimension "D" on the chart matches both the MOOG specs for the respective series.

FYI/FWIW, Federal-Mogul dropped the Precision name and went with MOOG for U-J's but the pn's are the same.

Re: U joint?

Thanks for all the thorough info. I'll have to look a little more carefully and take some measurements. Not sure but I might have one that all 4 wings are through bored. I'll pull it of the drive shaft to make sure. At the very least it has 2 wings bored.

Re: U joint?

Well I was wrong. All 4 are threaded. Based on measurement D it appears to be a 4c

Re: U joint?

one more question. is there a diffinitive test for u-j ? I was counting on replacing only because it was old dirty and rusty. Now that I have it off I'm wondering if it can be cleaned up , greased and reused?
Or, is it better to just replace for the peace of mind?

Re: U joint?

That is a Subjective assessment in my view. It takes a little time, energy, cleaning solution to find out if the joint is good enough. Once cleaned(careful not to lose any needle bearings) put it back together to see how it feels, if good, then lube and use it. That is my thoughts. If you want new then go that way. I think a used joint that is relatively tight and you are not going to haul a bunch of stuff, and hot rod the vehicle would probably last you quite a while. These are my opinions only.
