1918 Model H (Basket case) restoration

Welcome to the restoration of my Basket Case 1918 Model H since becoming involved with International Harvester Trucks thru my 1927 restoration the truck I always liked was Mike Millers Model F and always said if I had a chance to get a coal scuttle truck I would.

Well in 2011 I got that chance and went to a small town just out side of Wangaratta in Victoria Australia and purchased my basket case.

Time has now come to start on this restoration it will be a project that I would like to have finished for the trucks 100th year (2018) so we will be working on it as we can while still completing our current project a 1944 KS5.

One of the first things to start on is the wheels and as the old rubber was all cracked and broken and the timber in the wheels all rotted these will required a full rebuild.

One piece at a time ands it gets done. I would say, from looking at the picture, this is a triple basket case. I know you can make a truck out of the parts.

I like those stacking baskets.
Australia is on my basket (bucket) list and a ride in something older than I would be nice. A hair-cut, a shower, an ibuprofen and two daze of laxative before we leave should set me up for the long haul. My Dad used to caution me about using laxative. He suggested that there might not be enough to fill a shoe-box after the *&&^^%%$# stopped.

I would say that it looks like an awesome jigsaw puzzle. I hope they shipped you the instructions with the parts.

Re: 1918 Model H (Basket case) restoration

These are the rear wheels and axle assembly.

You can see how bad the wheels are, the first stage on these is to remove the old rubber it would be great if I could burn it off but don't think my neighbours would be to happy and with fire restrictions for the best part of 9 months of the year I couldn't do it anyway.

Once I get the rubber off they will be sent to Adelaide in south Australia to have new rubber moulded to the outer rims.

Brian its only a 15 hour flight to Sydney and then a small 1-1/2 hour hop to Melbourne cant wait to see you downunder now wouldn't recommend to many laxatives as I don't think those toilet sets would be to comfortable for that length of time. LOL

Those stacking crates have a removable front on them that make them so easy to load they now sit in the pallet racking that in the background of that first picture.

Thanks for the photos of your truck. From what I remember your sheet metal was in very good shape. The wheels are always an expensive part. Jim

Jim

Wheels and expensive certainly are two words that go together.

The sheet metal for this truck is in real good condition.
