Lycoming Engine

Would someone be able to tell me what the engine sizes are for the 1926 S-26, 6 cyl engine and the 1925 S-24, 4 cyl engine. I am trying to find the engine breakdown and specs to teardown and rebuild the engines, transmissions and rear ends. I have the gaskets on order for the S-26 and want to make sure I have the correct torque loads for the bolts.

A local supplier requires this information to source any parts that I may need to replace.

I have a 1928 international SF36 it has Lycoming engine and its 224 cu with 61 hp and if you need any gaskets olsen gaskets are very helpful with that. I hope this helps you and happy new year ,Don

Looks like S24 is 3 3/4 bore and 5' stroke, that makes it about 220.89 CID
The S26 has 3 1/4" bore and 4 1/2" stroke for 223.98 CID most likely listed as a 224 CID.
Interesting that the CID is very similar despite the change in number of cylinders.

Sorry for my delay in responding, I have been having trouble with connection here. I have reviewed the spec sheets for the vehicles, but I cant seem to find the engine breakdown and reassembly specs. I wanted to review and make sure I have all the data before stripping anything. I have ordered the 6 Cyl gaskets from Olson's and they are willing to work with me to fabricate the 4 cyl gaskets, the rear ends and the transmission gaskets for both trucks. This will allow them to sell the kits in the future.

Thanks for the 4 cyl engine data sheet Trevor, helps but I still need to source the Lycoming rebuild specs to ensure I put everything back together and it lasts (bolt torque specs).

The engine spec sheet I sent you came from Lycoming them self and that is all the had. If you do find torque settings let us know.

Would be interested intend Olsen gaskets for the Ct lycoming once they are done.

Will do, I'm going to put the mechanics here at the college on the case. Hoping that they might have other resources to find specs on rebuilding the motors. I shall keep you guys up to date.

I seriously doubt there were torque specifications for this engine back in the 1920s. I have worked on 1920s and 1930s IHC tractors and have the original service manuals for them and nowhere is there any torque specifications for anything. The manuals use words like "tight", "firm" and on the head bolts "tighten them all EVENLY and in several increments". You can find generic torque charts to determine appropriate torque for any given bolt, determined by size, thread pitch and bolt grade. I think for the 1/2" NF head bolts, 75 ft/lbs is adequate. I don't remember the size of the rod and main bearing bolts off hand.

I bought NOS head and manifold gaskets for my 4-cyl. CT Lycoming engine from Tom Underwood of Parts of the Past Inc. 785-749-5231 He may have other Lycoming parts, just have to call and ask.

Other gaskets can easily be cut out of the appropriate thickness gasket material.

If you REALLY wanted to, you could even make head and manifold gaskets yourself. FelPro makes gasket material suitable for both applications.

I thinks its best to give Olson's the templates so they can produce the gasket sets for others in the future who wish to rebuild or just replace gaskets to retain the oils where they belong. Its not really anymore work for me and it may benefit others.

I found my old Dykes encyclopedia, it has lots of information on the old vehicles. The IH manuals have the torque patterns, just don't have the torque specs.
