1931 A-2 Parts

Hi there,

New to these forums, and like the site. I just bought a 1931 A-2 truck, and am missing the oil pump, engine pulley that drives the fan belt and radiator cap. Anyone that may have these, or a lead to these would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Jeff

Welcome Jeff, give em time, some will answer. As for a cap, probably a no pressure or very low pressure cap. Lots of fellows with good knowledge on this site.

Re: 1931 A-2 Parts

For engine parts you must determine the engine in your unit...an old parts catalog lists both the Wauk XA (31/2x41/2) and XAH were originally installed (35/8x41/2)...Wauks usually have an ID tag on the lower part of the driver side block, but don't know if IH let them put them on...someone here will comment...
Caveat: old time/old line truckers loved to swap engines for more power etc, so you may not have original engine...
Look for 3"x4" or so metal "tag" attached to block somewhere; if none found take off all stamped/cast numbers/letters found and post here for advice/sympathy...
XA/XAH were widely used in ind'l/comm'l uses (gensets, pumps, free-standing power units etc), so if NOS NLA should be used pieces around...
Wauk Eng Hist Soc--wehs.net--will have latest manuals (many (all?) Wauk manuals issued in "editions" as updates). Wehs always sends latest edition---they have no parts, but are always helpful and/or sympathetic, such as advising if both engines used same oil pump and/or if your oil pump (assuming you have a Wauk) was also used on any other Wauk engines (makes searching easier)....Good luck.

Re: 1931 A-2 Parts

Hi Bud,

The engine is at my brother's right now. It's 3 5/8 bore. cast right into engine.
These are pics of numbers on block of engine.

Do these help identify engine at all??

Jeff

Can you post up a picture of the whole engine from both sides that way it will be easier to see the engine details.

Also could you post up a picture of the truck and I will add it to the registry at www.vihtr.com.

Re: 1931 A-2 Parts

Trevor, I would post a picture of the engine, but my brother has it at his place in Minnesota and I live in suburbs of Houston.
I will post picture of the truck the way I bought it online.

The Wauk should have a brass plate on the right side behind the carburetor. The XA has no waterpump, an XAH should have one.

My brother found the plate. Here's a picture.
XAH23 Waukesha.

Re: 1931 A-2 Parts

JJ: Your "23" is the works code for the original accessories etc (ign, carb, etc) on the engine, which I assume (but am not certain) will be the same as the other XAHs acquired by IH, considering possible updates...
Oldtech: Some XAs may've been issued with water pumps, or there may've been a kit to upgrade, as I have a couple old engine parts catalogs that list a water pump kit for "XA, XAH, XAK (for pumps having Fan Hub Pinned To Shaft. Threaded Shaft)."

Re: 1931 A-2 Parts

Thanks for the info Bud. I have begun my search for the parts, and am finding any XAH parts hard to come by.
This engine did no have a water pump from what we can tell.
I did order a full set of gaskets, but may have to figure out another way around the oil pump if I cannot find one.
