Re: ACME Beer Truck

The brake booster/ master/ pedal hanger has been moved up about 3".
I put the booster fork on the pin and I immediately have a high, hard pedal. Try that with Mustang II conversion!
Unfortunately I nicked one of the brake lines while grinding my firewall patches down.
It's not leaking but since I have no metric brake line tools it will be replaced as a unit.
I now have room underneath the booster for the steering shaft.

Re: ACME Beer Truck

The clutch does operate to an extent but it's apparent that pedal arm modifications will need to take place in order to get more clutch pedal travel, at least.
I haven't installed the two Toyota return springs, yet.
There is a bit of firewall flex that I'll rectify by joining the upper tabs on the two pedal hangers with a piece of steel that will no doubt tie-in with the steering column and the IHC dash reinforcing bracket.
Steering, here I come!

A picture of the Tacoma with the steering column bracket attached and a shot of where the column will be aimed.

Re: ACME Beer Truck

Take a look at this! This will be very close to mine when it's done. Yes I know it's a C and mine is a D.
Check out the "ACME" on the roof of the truck!
Mine had that! I'm going to cut another out of 1/8 plate and have it polished and chromed!

Re: ACME Beer Truck

I used mechanic's wire to temporarily suspend the Tacoma column from the D series dash.
Once I get it where I like I'll begin to build structure between the column bracket I cut off the tube behind the Tacoma dash and the IHC dash-reinforcing bracket.
That way I can unbolt the Tacoma column anytime I like.

Don't sell yourself short Smog. I love your build, ' cuz its American hot rodding at its best, using the parts and pieces available at the time, and having the guts and smarts to make 'em work . Had you not , the only memories exist in our heads or in a photo album. Keep up the great work !

Re: ACME Beer Truck

Thanks, macgiver!
My number one and two ideas here are "safe and inexpensive".
I should end up with a truck that will go anywhere the roads go and keep up with traffic, stop safely and just be reliable and reasonable to repair.
After all, it's heart is a Toyota.
I suspect I'll be in it about $2k or so when I'm done.
Honestly, I know this is a sin to say, but, most folks won't know or care there's Japanese power under the hood.

Re: ACME Beer Truck

I agree With MACGiver, very good what you are doing, You do make it look easy. Safe and able to go in current traffic are both good things. So with your build, it still needs to meet the smog inspection because you are using a "current" vehicle, correct? What motor did you say was in this Toyota?
You are correct, most people today, will not know or care what is under the hood, just that it runs and is easy to fix. Where you are not using a factory bed, but a flat bed, how is the fit side to side for the tires? Have you done any "newer" IH, say 50's?
