Fleet of 1940 D2s

I'm new to the site as well as truck restorations. I grew up in workshops and garages but have always been into custom fabrication and new builds. About a year ago my wife had a old black and white picture of my grandfather (who I never met) framed for me. He is leaning against a old truck with his foot up on the running board. The name of the paving company he owened was hand written on the door. I couldn't figure out what truck it was but after a good deal of searching I figured out it was a 1940 D2. I soon became obsessed with the truck. I asked my dad if he knew anything about it, and that was when he told me the company had a whole fleet of International trucks. It soon became my life mission to find a 40 d2 and restore it! After several months of searching I found a complete, unrestored D2 to bring back to life... I guess it is my way of connecting with my grandfather...well, as you all know, he is having the last laugh because searching for parts is just about impossible:). I'm well on my way but I am missing a few important parts: steering wheel (fell to pieces when removing it), one piece of stainless grill trim, gas tank (any reproduction ideas?) and misc. Any help would be great! I will post the pic of my grandfather when I get home.

I'm kinda hooked on D-2s, too.
I have a long, awful, scary story about a D-2 gas tank. I won't go into it again.
Let's just say finding a good one or fixing a bad one is tough.
Bigger D series use an under-seat tank, so you can't use one of those too well.
Gas tank renu will fix it for about $500+-?
I don't know of a tank from another vehicle that will fit.
I'm not aware of new tanks being made for a D-2.

Hey Smog-guy, I didn't remember you had a B-3. If you replace the woodframe on the cab let me know. Mine runs but the wood is rotted and I'm afraid to drive it around in fear the tin will start to buckle and crack. MM

I know what you mean. I'm seriously thinking about a metal reinforcing frame.
I think I copied the dimensions of the wood frame from someone here. I'll see if I can find it.

That looks like the steering committee lined up along the wall behind the truck
Glad to see you got the pictures right side up , it's because of my truck that I learned to work on a computer .

The steering column thing is a hilarious part of buiding old trucks. I keep just about anything I take off.
Someone, perhaps also building something will walk up to one of my favorite columns (like an old Dodge Motorhome column I have, early 60s) and say "give me this one, I like it".
If I'm in a good mood I say "no".
If I'm pissed I remind the dufus that I BOUGHT the donor, REMOVED the part myself, STORED the part for XX years, LISTENED to the wife and County bitch about the "eyesore".

So the pic of d2 is what started my obsession with Ihc. My dad found this other pic of my great grandfather (he started the paving company) in the coat and tie standing in front of another D series- any clue to the model?

Hammer not sure on the model bit hard to tell with the front on picture.

Ok, after seeing all those beautiful trucks, I think I'm going to start my own small collection of Ds (just need to figure out how I will break the news to my wife... And might need a big bag of $$). So, I think the truck is a d30-d40 with a tar distributor on the rear. Has anyone come across a D with this type attachment?
