D2 Drag Link

We are trying to disassemble the drag link on 1937 D2 truck. Any suggestions on how to get the end plugs to unscrew? They are really frozen/rusted. Everything was soaked with penetrating oil before winter storage and they still won't budge. Is there a rebuild kit available? Where can we find parts? Thank You!

Big "screwdriver" slot in the ends?
Remove cotter pins.
The plugs just unscrew.
There are "draglink" sockets out there with a huge screwdriver bit built into them. Used to come in big socket sets.
May have to hold the draglink in a vise while you use the socket/breaker bar.
If they dont unscrew, yes they're frozen in place. Kinda weird when you consider they shoulda had grease stuck up inside them.
Mine always just unscrew.

IH used to sell repair kits for the '50s trucks with that setup and probably earlier models, too. New Old Stock is probably getting pretty thin by now. I don't have a book to look up the part number.

If someone with the IH parts manual can provide a few pn's I can probably come up with the correct kit pn.
Until the late 50's all the parts were listed individually,there were no kits. I checked the K/KB,L,R & A series 1/110/2/120 and they all use the same internal end parts so it's very plausible the D1/2 do as well. I have the kit pn for the trucks I looked up and it hits in a Google search (numerous LL vendors).
I'm looking for the pn's for the 2 springs and 4 seats,two seats should be the same # so we're talking 4 pn's.

LLLLLLloyd, appreciate the effort but that's the K book which I already checked. I'd like the info from the MT-23/D1 and (or) the MT-38 D2 books. It's likely they're the same but I'd rather be sure, I'm 90% confident they're the same but...

Btw, The pn's you posted don't jibe, I used Fig. 1401 which is where the main index sent me.The #'s from 1402 are the tie rod ends.

That is why Your the Man, I used figure 10-1 on page 382 Only MT I have.

Thanks for all of the information! We'll be working on this again later this week. Our drag link socket is too small/thin and does not get a good "bite" on the plug. Checking with a couple of local repair shops to see if they have the right tool. Maybe with a better socket, more penetrating oil and a little heat it will come apart.

Couple of hints, make sure all bits of the cotterpin locking it are removed. Try screwing it in tighter, with wear it should have slop to tighten, that will expose threads on the backside to spray. If that works, work it back and forth until it comes all the way out. MM

O.K. so we finally got one end off. Found a broken spring. Everything else looks alright. Where do we find a spring? Here are approximate measurements - Plug 1-1/16" round by 3/4" long. Plug is dished to mate with the ball stud. Spring is maybe 7/8" round and 3/4" long.
