D model hood prop

I was in the process of installing spacer washers between the base of the hood props and the firewall, to keep the paint from getting chipped.
All went well until I found the left side prop was hitting the firewall when it was being retracted.
I pulled the prop away from the firewall to bend it enough to clear it and it snapped.

I'm astounded that the hood props are made of cast steel (white metal?)
I would have bet they were steel, but they're not.

So now I'm looking for a replacement.
How many years/models used the same props? I need to know, so I can search for the right item without limiting my search for a prop to fit a '37 D-40.
Thanks in advance.
Extra thanks if someone has one they'll sell me.

Not every D I get has the hood prop.
"Butterfly" hoods ended on the bigger Ks, I think.
So I suspect a limited range of models. Perhaps only D.
I'm surprised they're cast metal. Weird.
Can't you replace just the rod with some better stuff?

I have three Model D's, all with hood props and none of them are cast. They are easy to duplicate. Just use some steel rod, heat with a torch and bend to the correct shape.

Dave, how would you know if they were cast or not, without actually breaking one, like I did?

It's not my truck and I'm very upset that I broke it. The truck belongs to the fire company where I grew up. I'm helping them with the restoration and this is making me look bad.
They had the props chrome-plated and as I said, I never suspected they were cast. It makes no sense to me, but they are.

I can't erase what happened, but I can rectify the situation if I can find another prop. They have a batch of parts ready to get rechromed and I want to find a prop to go with the batch.

I can only speak about the ones I have seen, but some of them were bent and I straightened them. Maybe yours are different!
