Six Speed Special

I think anyway. The seller refers to it as an "IH speed truck".

That is not a Six Speed Special. The Six Speed Special is a one ton truck and was built in 1928, 1929, & 1930.
The Speed Truck was built before 1928, The Six Speed Special has a Waukesha engine. The earlier Speed Truck and later larger trucks had Lycoming engines. I believe that is what this picture is.

Re: Six Speed Special

In the add it has its a S24. A little more common but you still don't see to many of them around. I have got one tucked away for a future restoration.

Interesting on this truck is the headlights have been moved from on the cowl to out front.

Re: Six Speed Special

Engine is definitely a CT Lycoming. No front brakes so early 28 or older. S24, S26 were introduced in 1926 so not a 25 either. It appears to have the fuel filler under the cowl vent door rather than the filler sticking up through the cowl.So the age range will be 1926-1927, maybe possibly very early 28. I would have to research parts book for serial # of fuel tank change. Of note is that it has been updated to the newer style V belt fan drive. Original flat belt setup used a pot metal pulley on the crankshaft and they cracked and disintegrated with age.
