valve job questions

Ok,

After struggling through several issues, no spark (thanks cornbinder), timing and fuel I finally got My 233 GRD started. Once running and up to normal operating temperature I noticed it was running very rough. Adjusting the carburetor had little effect, so I pulled out My compression tester and the results are as follows.

#1 cyl. 95 lbs
#2 cyl. 81 lbs
#3 cyl. 90 lbs
#4 cyl. 75 lbs
#5 cyl. 30 lbs
#6 cyl. 90 lbs

Squirting oil into the cylinders had no affect. So I pulled the head and found the #4 exhaust valve cracked and #5 exhaust valve was burnt.

My questions.

How do I remove the valves, I pulled the side access covers but not sure how they are removed. ( I don't have a manual)
Should I replace all 6 exhaust valves and intake valves or just the 3 exhaust valves.
Egge Machine lists the exhaust valves for about $23.00 each.
Should I replace the valve guides also.

Thanks for any help, I'm sure I'll have more questions.

George

Maybe the first 4 pages might help.

Trevor, I tried to open that link and it gave me this: The link you're trying to access can't be used to share files. Please ask the file owner to provide you with a shared link instead. Contact Box Support if you need help.

Just thought you would like to know.

Re: valve job questions

That odd, it worked this morning when Trevor first replied and I was able to print off the pages I needed, now I'm getting the same error.

Re: valve job questions

Not sure on the valve seats, what do You recommend. Looking for any opinions and suggestions. The last time did a valve job was on My 67 Mustang.
I wish I still had it.

Re: valve job questions

I guess my point is that a machine shop will be needed shortly.
The valve heads usually are dressed, too.
So, do you take truck/ engine to machine shop or does machine shop come to you?
The valve work can certainly be done with engine in.
Do you know someone with valve grind capabilities that will travel to your house?
Don't laugh, I know one guy locally who would do it.
Or do you take entire truck to machine shop,
Or do you pull engine?
Let us know what path you take.

Re: valve job questions

Thanks smog,

There's an engine shop about a mile down the road, He's done work for Me before. I'll stop by on My way to work one day this week and see what
He says. Trailering the truck is not a problem and also pulling the engine is not a big deal either as all the sheet metal is off, probably 4 bolts, the 2 motor mounts and the 2 bell housing bolts and she's out.

thanks again
